Hey Everyone!
Introduction: I'm known as HasteInTime on PSN, in short tag I'm called HiT. You can just call me Tom instead if you want. I'm 24 presently and I've been playing video games since I was 3. I had every console out there and still do. Anyway...
Summary: I picked up the BETA literally- just yesterday morning and I'm now catching up on what CCP/CCP-Shanghai has been up to with Dust-514, it was a long time ago that this was to be a shooter for the Ps3 exclusively and would be something like MAG. It didn't even have EvE on the title yet. Now I've come to find it got linked into the EvE universe and some other cool stuff such as orbital bombardments. So yeah needless to say I'm pretty ecstatic!
BETA Impressions: I think D514 has turned out pretty good and the mapping looks smooth enough. I like the assault class and everything has a place, the fact that you can have EvE players do bombing runs is pretty unique, that is cross platforming to almost to a capital T. My first instant-battle today didn't go the best route in the end even though my team was winning early on but I loved every second of it and I had a blast learning the game. I do have some questions, like:

[Resolved] What kinds of stuff can Auras (Aurums) get you? Best Answer: Slightly Askew
Teamwork! Unfortunately I dont have many online Friends on PSN that I could play this with. I'd appreciate an add as long your 17 or older and that you dont drink, smoke, or use/abuse drug substances that are illegal here in the USA where I'm from. Also, I love to have communication with my fellow players, so you should add me onto Skype as well and have a decent working headset. All this just comes from my personal experiences online that I've had up to now from the Dreamcast back in the day to the Ps3, X360, and PC nowadays. As I just dont feel like having to deal with the aforementioned "do-not" issue.

I dont really need to know much about EvE or its universe, I just came here to shoot, kill, and chill.
If you have any questions or comments to share, then please do fire away!
Note: I'm not recruiting for any corporations, just looking for some Friends and wanted to talk first impressions. Figured this was the place to do so for a completely new player like me...
Edit: Keeping it updated, clean, and in-context. |

@Slightly Askew: Tom is fine, but its your pick really.
Aurums? Ah my mistake as I've played a few games that used Auras as a currency type.
I will gladly accept your request whenever you get the chance.
Also, EvE isn't all that completely new to me as I think it's been around just as long as Guild Wars has almost. I've always wanted to check it out but I'm pretty stingy on MMOs and didn't have a good PC until Diablo III which I built it for, LoL. It's been only recently I gained an appreciation for MO game types. Seeing as I'm a Black-Light Tango-Down and Retribution fan. That and FF14 ARR looks pretty cool and I'm anticipating. Other games I've picked up recently in relation to MO types are Diablo III, Torchlight II, Guild Wars 2, FFXI, Warhammer Online and LoTR Online. I'm still not a fan of World of Warcraft which I just call WO for Warcraft Online.
Back to D514, I hope I do get to enjoy the lore sometime, but like I said it's my shooter pastime at the moment- its all about sharin' the fun and enjoying the heck out of it. As this new pastime is one that I hope I get to share with some cool folks on the PS3/PC. Just to give you an idea I'm not making a Corporation just yet but I'm exploring the idea. When I do make one if I want members for that then I will post a thread for it and discuss it there further in detail. There are vehicles on the battlefield that I have seen, do you know what types there are and if you unlock them for use and whatnot? |

Fox Gaden wrote:Hi Tom. You were 3 and just starting to play video games the last time I played an FPS game prior to DUST. You canGÇÖt customize the look of your character yet. They have been concentrating on developing core battle mechanics. I expect they will make customized avatars available before the game launches, although that would really be more for the forums than the game since you will not be taking your helmet off during a match. They will be releasing more racially specific dropsuits soon though, so there will be a little more individuality. Aurum buys you stuff equivalent to the next tear up from what your skill points will allow you to use. It will also buy you implants which allow you to accumulate skill points a little faster. Most people use the in game coms rather than Skipe. Mostly because a lot of people donGÇÖt have a computer siting next to their PS3 to run Skipe on, and the in game coms seem to work well. Edit: Vehicles: The vehicles under Militia Equipment do not require skills to use. Try these out to see if you like them. Trucks, Tanks, even Drop Ships. Keep in mind though, that without skills they will be hard to drive.
@Denak Kalamari & Fox Gaden I dont think that first sentence came out quite right. But you meant to quote that "when I was 3 and I started to play v-games..." Was that the very last time you played an FPS prior to D514? (when you were 3?) Cause I played A-TON of games not just shooters and at age 3 wasn't my last time certainly for any game-type been playing at least 6 hours everyday for 21 years. Heck right now I'm listening to .NSF files which are In-game NES audio files. lol, I do love gaming alot!
Hmm... Wish I could multi-quote. Thanks for the help.

-Doing Some Right by You-
It seems that I'm gonna need to make a spread-sheet to accurately play through the game, should I make more than one character. I'm probably gonna need it for making my current one anyway.
Does anyone know If I can find a EvE Skill Sheet and where? I just wanted to compare stuff. As I'm looking into similarities if there are any. The Skill Sets seem to get pretty in depth for D514.
Is is possible to hit a max level on a skill?
What was your first time on D514 like?
@Fox Gaden: I'm guessing that after you made your edit that first sentence more clear or It's my bad. So anyway, your saying that you have not played an FPS since about 1991. I apologize as it's likely my mistake before, at the time I was pretty tired. I must have jumbled the sentence somehow. Thanks for your help. Really. :]
About-Skype: Also about the whole "no Skype deal," I can understand that not everyone has their Ps3 near their PC but I do. I've just had terrible luck with the Ps3 in General for In-Game chat no matter what I do. Skype offers superior communications in quality and its key when you are in the heat of battle. Even a cheap headset like the Xbox 360's wired one works on Skype fine, heck almost anything does.
There is also one thing Skype has over in-game communications on Ps3. Which is that the Ps3 is incapable of cross-game chat. In other words; Skype can allow you to continue the conversation about your next game and strategy while the Ps3 cannot and ends when the game has been quit/ejected.
Now we probably not going to switch games, but in the case that we do to say SOCOM 4 for example- Skype has you covered.
Alternatively you can use Skype on a Laptop, Smartphone, or even a Tablet. So no your not just tied to your desktop PC using Skype. it's actually pretty easy to set up. That and all Skype to Skype calls are free.
@Denak Kalamari: "Be prepared to die, a lot. Adapt or die."
I know that every time I play a shooter- this is true even for D514, but I just focus on what I can do to improve upon the next time about. As for "Adapt or die" of course I adapt, in fact I'm not a Strategy game loving nut for nothing. lol. I tend to be the one guy always the pain in your side pushing the limits of my team while doing it. If I need something for advice I'll take you up on that, its just playing with kids I'm mostly avoiding by doing it this way and for the mean time I'm more likely to find like minded individuals near my age by limiting it to 17 or older. Which it will likely stay at.
@Slightly Askew: I dont see your friend's request yet, hmm. Maybe you changed your mind or you forgot? huh...
Edit: "For New Eden!" |
